Internship at an Accounting Company

How would you rate your completed internship on a scale 1 to 10? (1poor; 10-excellent)
9

Did your internship match your expectations? And, were you able to gain the work experience you wanted?
Even if I was more interested in working for a bank (which is closer to my specialization at the university) eventually this internship became really an enriching experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to work for this company. I hope the time I spent here will be appreciated by my potential new employer back home, but it is too soon to say now.

Please outline the tasks and functions of your internship in two or three sentences.
My main responsibilities were book keeping, tax calculations and reports preparation. I also attended number of tax workshops at SARS to lear nmore about the tax system in South Africa

Would you recommend this placement? And, why?
I would definitely recommend it to accounting, tax and finance students who need some experience before they finish their degree. It gives you a general view of how it works in an accounting company and you can also improve your professional English skills when you use it on daily basis.

How did you enjoy Cape Town? And, would you recommend it to other international students?
Life in South Africa is very different to life in Europe, but Cape Town is an amazing city with its specific vibes and I enjoyed my stay here a lot. Furthermore South Africa has so much to offer! Staying here only for half a year is not enough, but even though it is worth it. If you want to experience something else than you are used to just come here and meet local people, braai, chill and enjoy as much as you can!

Internship at an Engineering Company

It was a great experience! my internship was better than I had imagined though the start wasnt easy because of the language barrier.
Life in Cape Town is really nice. There are so many different activities to do (going out, beaches, wine tasting, sports...).
The mountain, the sea, the city- everything is fabulous. Although it is winter the weather is pleasant. There are lots of things to discover, unfortunately the time is running out.
Kickstart was of great help and took good care of us.

I would like to return to South Africa. Also, I advise everybody to come!
Thank you very much!

Did your internship match your expectations? And, were you able to gain the work experience you wanted?
Yes, my internship met my expectations and I know that the knowledge I gained will help me achieving my next and future steps. I learned new techniques as well as gained new skills.

Please outline the tasks and functions of your internship in two or three sentences.
I was assisting the German International Division at the company in terms of marketing strategies, designing of advertising material, translation of information material as well as liaising directly with clients. Furthermore, I did general admin work and even taught some of the admin staff certain computer literature.

Would you recommend this placement? And, why?
Yes, I definitely would recommend this placement, but you should be fluent in both English AND German. It is great as you learn new perspectives and get directly involved with customers and clients. The property industry is very interesting and exciting and new tasks always evolve.

How did you enjoy Cape Town? And, would you recommend it to other international students?
I have been living in Durban for the past four years and have seen different places in South Africa but nothing can top Cape Town. It is the best city to be at and once I have completed my studies in October 2007, I will definitely go back to Cape Town and live there!
It is an amazing and beautiful place with so many things to do.

What did you think about your internship?
I liked my internship. It is a company who works very hard, but on the other side very relaxed. They take the time to explain all the things you have to know and take care of work for you. If you want or have to do something else they help you to find other jobs.

Kickstart (Allinterns) is a good way to find a practical training overseas. They ask you what you are looking for, what you really want to do and in which sector.
In less than two weeks i had a training place. They also arrange a place to stay for you, and nice things to do during you’re stay. So if you really want to come to South- Africa (what you really really have to do) don’t hesitate to contact Kickstart!

It is a marvelous, terrific and simply stunning place – one of thepearls of the world. It combines business, civilization with an exotic world of Africa – a definite poddle of nations, a place where past and future intersect. And if you add sandy beaches, beautiful ladies and the chilling aura of the resort you get a place which is close to paradise
